Bouncing Back: Spring Break Brings Economic Hope to Santa Barbara’s Business Community

Spring break revitalizes the Central Coast economy following a lackluster start to the year.

As the rainy weather at the start of 2023 in Santa Barbara, California began to subside, the business community eagerly awaited a boost from sunshine and Spring break travelers. Despite the damp conditions in the first quarter, there was optimism among businesses in the area that an influx of travelers would soon be arriving for vacation stays, shopping, and dining out.

This hope was realized during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in early February when there was a noticeable increase in visitors to the city. Movie fans were out at the theaters and out-of-towners were spending a few nights in the area.

Now, as Spring break travelers begin to arrive this week with temperatures in the upper 60’s to low 70’s, there is a sense of anticipation for an economic boost. However, rain is also forecasted for Friday due to a Pacific Ocean stream coming onto the shore. This could potentially impact tourist activity and cause safety concerns.

Despite these challenges, various locations in Santa Barbara are expected to see an economic spike from an influx of visitors. The Old Mission, harbor, Stearns Wharf, Santa Barbara Zoo and others will likely experience increased foot traffic during this time. Additionally, travel experts have noted that many people who were on staycations due to post-pandemic restrictions are now ready to venture out again for their post-pandemic trips.

As more details become available about Spring break’s impact on Santa Barbara’s economy, video and photos will be added to this story later today.
