Richard Joseph Jackson, MD, MPH, FAAP, HonAIA, HonFASLA presents Grand Rounds in Population and Public Health Sciences

The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences is hosting an event titled “Climate Change is Among the Greatest Challenges Facing Humanity: The Responses Must Benefit All People and the Natural World.” Richard J. Jackson, MD, MPH, FAAP, HonAIA, HonFASLA, will be the keynote speaker at the event. He is currently Professor emeritus at the Fielding School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Jackson has served as State Health Officer for the California Health Department and as Director of the CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to public health and environmental advocacy and has authored several books on the impact of urban sprawl and designing healthy communities.

The panelists for the event will be announced at a later date. Richard J. Jackson currently resides in Berkeley, California with his spouse Joan Guilford and they have three adult children and seven grandchildren. The event aims to discuss how climate change affects modern life, including increased heat waves, febrile oceans, storm violence, lost insurance, wildfires smoke-filled air, asocial behavior and an epidemic of loneliness. Additionally it explores underlying forces that can lead to improved health and potentially happiness through physical environmental changes.
