Phil announces Tim Mickelson’s retirement as his brother’s caddie

Nearly seven years after his split with his longtime bagman Bones Mackay in June 2017, Phil Mickelson announced Tuesday that Tim Mickelson, who replaced Mackay on the team, is retiring to spend more time with his family.

Tim, Phil’s younger brother, took on the role of caddie after leaving his job as the men’s college golf coach at Arizona State to become Jon Rahm’s agent. During his time as Phil’s caddie, Tim helped him win three times on the PGA Tour, including the 2021 PGA Championship. He also followed Phil to LIV Golf two years ago, although Phil has not seen much success in the Saudi-backed league.

Mickelson expressed gratitude for the great moments shared on and off the course with Tim over the past eight years. He thanked Tim for his unwavering support and dedication to their shared goals. While Tim may be retiring from caddying to focus on his family as their lives have evolved – with Maranda and their growing family – he will always be an important member of Mickelson’s team.

Mickelson’s replacement has not yet been announced, but LIV Golf’s next event is scheduled for next week at Doral outside of Miami. Fans can expect a new addition to Mickelson’s team soon as he continues to compete in LIV Golf events and other professional golf tournaments around the world.
